Hack Your AT&T Tilt PTT Button
January
7th
If your like me you don’t have the Push To Talk service on your Tilt. In fact, you think it is fricken annoying when someone’s phone squawks next to you.
So the PPT button is useless, or worse, if you it the button it pops up warning about how you don’t have the PPT service. So here is an easy hack to allow you to make the PPT button on your AT&T Tilt assignable in settings.
WARNING: Like any hack, messing with the registry can brick your phone.
Short form of the hack for the bigger brained:
- Find and delete registry entry: HKLM/Services/PTT
- In the Registry Go to: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Keys
- Add Key: 40C6
- Add String: Button 6
- Soft reset
Slightly longer form of the hack:
- Get a Windows Mobile registry editor like PHM RegEdit or SK Tools.
- Do a find on PPT. Keep Find Nexting until you get to HKLM/Services/PTT.
- Delete Entry HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Keys
- Go to: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Keys
- Navigate through the tree to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Microsoft > Shell > Keys
- Then depending on the tool, you will have to add or edit at this point. First you will have to add the Key. Add Key: 40C6
- Now you will add or edit the value. It will prompt you for several value types, choose string and enter "Button 6"
- Now Soft reset
You should now be able to go into Settings > Buttons and set button 6 to something useful. I set mine to VoiceCommand.
Good Hacking.
